Sinotrust Joins the CMRA Delegation to Taiwan

Lin Lei Speaks at: From the Perspective of the Automotive Industry: The Development and Future Trends of the Chinese Marketing Research

Taiwan, June 2, 2010----Between May 27 and June 2, the Chinese Marketing Research Association (CMRA) organized a one-week visit to Taiwan for idea exchange and investigation. Lin Lei, Co-President & Joint CEO of Sinotrust, participated in this meaningful event, and delivered a speech entitled “From the perspective of the automotive industry: The development and future trends of the Chinese marketing research” at the “2010 Across-strait Marketing Research Symposium” on May 29.

Lin Lei, Co-President & Joint CEO of Sinotrust is delivering the speech

Lin first gave a brief introduction of Sinotrust. According to Lin, Sinotrust (since 1992) is a leading supplier of marketing solutions and credit solutions in China. The company provides marketing research, business information, consulting and database marketing services through integration of information, services and technology. Its products and services help clients from automotive, financial services, insurance, retail, telecommunications, IT, manufacturing, consumer products and trade sectors to make better marketing and credit decisions and develop profitable customer relationships. Now the 700-member company is headquartered in Beijing and has presence in Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Over the past 16 years since it pioneered the auto market research field in 1994, Sinotrust has accumulated extensive expertise and experience, and formed the largest auto marketing research team in China. It is the first professional institution that launched auto channel management and evaluation services, conducted car clinic studies, built a passenger vehicle customer satisfaction evaluation system, developed an auto dealer distribution model, and provided database marketing and business intelligence (BI) services for automakers in China. Now, Sinotrust’s Motorlink website (www.motorlink.cn) has become a leading auto marketing information website in China.

Lin also introduced the development of the Chinese automotive industry to the counterparts in Taiwan. Between 2001 and 2009, the Chinese auto market kept growing in leaps and bounds at an annual rate of 24.5%. In the face of the global economic slump in 2009, China edged out the U.S. as world’s largest auto consumer by selling over 13 million vehicles in that year. Sinotrust has witnessed the fast growth and remarkable changes in the Chinese automotive market through all these years. Vehicles, which were once luxuries, are fast becoming an everyday item, with the number of passenger vehicle models overtaking the commercial vehicle models and A-segment vehicles (suitable for family use) slowly eroding the market shares of B- and C-segment vehicles; with the rise of SUVs and MPVs, the auto consumption in China is becoming more diversified; the market that used to be dominated by Santana, Jetta and Fukang now launches over 80 models every year; the combined market share of Chinese auto brands is steadily increasing and reached 31.0% in 2009 (of the 58 newly-launched models in 2009, most are Chinese brands), while the market shares of other joint ventures maintain constant;  auto consumption is expanding to tier-3 and 4 cities from tier-1 and 2 cities, with the growth of the markets in tier-1 cities slowing down while the markets in tier-2 and 3 cities thriving; large dealer groups are playing a pivotal role in the auto market.

According to Lin, the Chinese auto market has gone through the product competition period, the dealer network competition period and the brand competition period. In 2008, it ushered in the “marketing competition period”. At different development periods, Sinotrust provided different research products and services to meet automakers’ needs. With the rapid growth of the Chinese automotive industry, the marketing research services will begin to concern automakers’ marketing decision and customer relationship management process.

It is reported that 21 executives from 17 Mainland-China marketing research institutions participated in this visit, which is the largest idea exchange activity with Taiwan counterparts since the birth of the Chinese marketing research industry. This activity has placed a solid foundation for the promotion of the cross-strait cooperation.
