During the meeting, the status quo of whole industry was discussed by both sides. The concerned aspects include market size, industry segmentation, client classification and research methodologies. As introduced by President Liu, the very large gap still existed among the different agencies inside the industry. Also, the transnational market research institutions have a large market share in China. Their annual turnover accounts for around 1/3 of the whole industry. Comparatively speaking, most domestic market research institutions are medium and small-sized. Even for the domestic market research agencies with outstanding performance, the turnover only accounts for RMB 1 million or 10 million. Particularly, in the course of development, the medium-sized market research institutions have suffered from the “Bottleneck” in terms of funds, techniques and services. For the industry segmentation, FMCG, automobile, telecoms and IT are still the major customer sectors. In recent years, the government commissioned research project has grown rapidly, mostly in the social conditions and opinion survey types of study. .As talking about the future development trends of this industry, President Liu thought the technology would play a more and more important role in the development of market research, which was agreed by Lin Lei who said: “the information, technology and services are integrated to provide our organizational clients with better marketing solutions and credit solutions. This is the direction we go towards. So, we pay more attention to the sustainable investment and innovation on technology. In the future, our technology for analytical tools will be increasingly demanded by the clients”. Currently, Sinotrust boasts over 50 staff dedicated to technical development and data management.
Meanwhile, Lin Lei made an introduction to President Liu and General Secretary Liu on Sinotrust’s structure & size, orientation and relevant technologies. Sinotrust collects, analyzes and manages information about markets, consumers and businesses to provide marketing research, business information, consulting and database marketing services through integration of information, services and technology. Our products and services help organizations make better marketing and credit decisions and develop profitable customer relationships. Also, President Liu introduced the association’s major work in 2010. According to President Liu, Asia Pacific Research Coalition (APRC) would continuously absorb the new state members to enlarge its size, so as to become the third largest international market research association or organization only after ESOMAR and AMA. In 2011, APRC’s annual conference will be held in China. On the occasion, CMRA will; cooperate with all the member companies to jointly concern and support APRC’s annual grand event. It is believed that the better exchange and communication will be conducted between the Chinese market research insiders and their counterparts in Asia and Pacific Area through this meeting.
As the official meeting was over, Lin Lei accompanied President Liu to visit Sinotrust’s central database room which processes the numerous data and on-line information from Sinotrust. Also, the central database room is equipped with automatic fire extinguishing system as well as the intelligent systems such as smoke detector, temperature controller and humidity controller, which are still rare in the country.
